Community, Connection, & Joy
Our Story
It all started with a simple question in a local neighborhood Facebook Group: "Does anyone know how to teach Mahjong?"
What began as a small volunteer effort to help a neighbor in early 2024 quickly turned into something much bigger. When over 20 neighbors showed up at that first gathering—bringing snacks, stories, and a shared curiosity, we realized San Francisco was hungry for more than just a game. People were looking for a way to truly connect.
Since then, our mission has been simple: to keep this vibrant tradition alive by building a community rooted in joy, connection, and learning.
We believe that Mahjong is the ultimate "social network." It’s a game that bridges generations, breaks down barriers, and turns strangers into friends over the course of a single round. Driven by a pure love for the game and the spirit of San Francisco, we’ve grown into a monthly movement dedicated to sharing food, joy, and laughter.
Whether we are gathering in a local library or a lovely neighborhood church, our goal remains the same: to provide a healthy, welcoming space where anyone can learn, play, and belong.
